Technics SB-6060 speakers - quality? value?

I'm attempting to contact a guy about a set of Technics SB-6060 speakers from their Linear Phase series. I understand that some of this line has a following and I was wondering where the SB-6060 fits and what to expect from them. I'm posting in D&S because I'm hoping somebody can also guide me as far as what kind of offer I should make, if they might be worth having.

"worth" is a tricky question. It's what they're worth to YOU that matters. I've got a soft spot for technics - total nostalgia from when I was a kid - but have recently been VERY surprised by a set of Technics Linear Phase speakers - SB-L200's - a speaker WELL below the 6060 I would suspect. The 7000's and 7070's have received accollades from real critics - so I'm hoping you'll be pleased.

And when I say I was surprised - I compared them to Vandersteen 2c's and 2CE's - serious audiophile speakers. The technics held up remarkablely well in comparison. Totally listenable across a wide range of music styles and volumes. (assuming excellent upsteam electronics of course - which you may never deign to couple with such a speaker.

I would imagine the SB-6060 should be pretty comparable to your SB-7000's.

As for price I think some of the Technics stuff like this has risen in the last couple years. I still kick myself for not getting a pair of local SB-7070's for $250. I would think that would be a decent price for a pair of SB-6060's right now.

I've seen Sb-7070's go for over $500 in the Toronto area in 2007. CRAZY money - but the guy had a virtual bidding war for them at the time - lots of interest.

Curious - 'cause I can't sell my Vandersteen 2CE's for $650 - not that I'm trying too hard - but I can't imagine the 7070's hanging with the Vandy's.

Still - the 7070's are rumoured to be great. These Sb-L200's are STILL blowing me away - and I paid $200 for 'em tonight. So if the 6000's are in between - they'll be a fine speaker (again though - I'm running these with a Krell and Arcam CDP for hoots)

6000's for the same money or a bit more? Steal in these parts. YMMV of course.
