Yes of course... but this model of speaker doesnt use the type of foam surrounds that deteriorate and need to be replaced so again... what foam is that guy talking about?

Just for frankenspeaker project fun I purchased a used midrange driver from SB-7000A off FleaBay and the surround is foam that looks like it will ultimately deteriorate over time even though mine is still in pretty good shape.
What is truly surprising about this particular midrange driver is the range of inward compliance the cone is capable of which is easily 1/2 inch or more which exceeds many woofers! It is indeed a fine sounding midrange driver with a powerful magnet structure for excellent sonic detail within its operating range. I've always wanted to score one of the SB-7000 dome tweeters as well, but they typically sell on Fleabay for far more money than I am willing to spend as my frankenspeaker creations are always on a very tight budget! (lol).

Sometimes, if it looks like a duck, it isn't a duck. The SB7000a woofer and driver use a special rubberized foam. Regular cheap foam used on countless speakers usually lasts 10 to 20 years depending on the environment that they live in. Did they sit directly in the sun light or have cigarette smoke blown on them? If so, 10 years. Did they live in perfect conditions? maybe 20 years before turning brittle or into goo. As for the rubberized foam on the Technics SB7000a drivers??? Mine are now over 40 years old and act as though they were brand new both in listening and to the touch of a finger. Now, as for the tweeter? Very strong magnet. Good tweeter. Like just about any tweeter, they can be damaged if over driven. Like any tweeter, they can be damaged if the capacitor in the crossover that feeds them goes bad and passes either lower frequencies than is intended or even worse, DC. Listen to them like normal people and they will not blow up.
First post here. I was given a pair of SB-7000's that my uncle bought in Gwam while in the Air Force, 1977 perhaps? They are in great shape, all the foam is intact, stored in dry climate, no visible damage. He said they were still working fine when I got them about 10 years ago. Just now getting a system together and try them out.
Question: these are the 7000's, not the 7000A's. Can anyone tell me what the difference might be? I should have looked closer but I think the tweets are either missing, or they're mounted along side the mids.

I had a pair of them a few years back and I had always drooled over them in the original brochures and seeing them at the stores in Little Rock. I sold mine off because it was "herd thinning time" and I had too many other speakers I preferred the sound of better. But if I ever come across a pair of the SB-7070's, I just might have to bite. The addition of the mid-bass driver definitely makes up for that extra bite in that area between the woofer and small midrange.

I was looking up info on a pair of SB 7000A’s that are for sale locally and found this old thread and the flag you posted in your comment. Made me sad thinking here we go again.
I have a set of the 7000A , purchased in the late 70s . They sold for 750.00 plus per speaker . Replaced one tweeter and have a extra as back up . Quite a beautiful sounding speaker . I could be willing to part with them , for a fair price . Running them with a Sansui 8 Deluxe . Very impressive, they are near mint as I think you will find for a 45 year old speaker

Sold these speakers new as with the entire Technics line in that era. Had a set myself up until a year ago as wife was yelling about too many large speakers had to thin the herd also. Great speakers and if the tweets stop working they are an easy fix, I believe i posted it on this site years ago.. Good luck

But you say that you do not know how it got there now and that is a mystery. Maybe just some wonky code cross over in the Matrix. I mistakenly thought it was a flag posted years ago when I dug this thread out from the past. I even went to Wiki to see just what was going on in Ukraine back then and there was turmoil hence my response.

People always talk about "thinning the herd" with speakers. I'm nearing 70 years old and have had many speakers, a lot being upper echelon. I thinned the herd in the recent past and the 7000a's are here to stay! My pair still looks excellent. Cabs in great shape along with grills. Recapped them a couple of years ago, replaced a tweeter, and instead of foam used 2 precision cut pieces of leftover carpet under the midrange. Fine sounding speakers. I also got a hold of two stacks of round patio stones and painted them flat black. Put the 7000s on them and have great isolation with wide sound stage and depth. Running with a restored Marantz 2325 using Kimber cable. I purchased these new in 1975 for $900.00 the pair. Hook them up to good equipment and use good room placement strategies, and you will be quite impressed with the sound quality. THESE ARE COLLECTOR STATUS

Awesome set up! An older friend of mine in high school had a pair of SB-6000's paired with a Sansui AU-717 integrated that I remember well. I really can't remember what turntable he had, but I remember hearing Aphrodite's Child 666 for the first time on that system and it was life changing. I only wish I could have heard the SB-7000's

The 6000s were nice as well. Not as much bass, and thinner midrange; but the treble was just about as nice. Very nice sounding, until my friend blew both tweeters. I have seen two different variations of the tweeter on the 6000s. the only difference I could see was that on one of them the tweeter magnet protruding from behind was thinner than with the 7000s. I remember my friend had quite a hard time keeping the cat's claws away from those grilles. lol. Wished I would have taken them off his hands when he got rid of them. The linear phase speakers from Technics are getting more and more harder to find, let alone nice ones. One must be a handy man with repairing them.

The 7000s sound better than ever before since I placed them on the cement stands and gave them real nice speaker wire. I have quite a bit of audio components in my older age, but I make sure my systems [all 5] get rotated for use every week to keep things operating the way they should. The 7000s also benefit from pulling them out away from the wall somewhat. Bass tightens up substantially. The worst thing for vintage equipment is non-use.
