Technics SB 7000A's - Opinions?

I'm going to look at a pair of Technics SB 7000A's later, supposedly in mint condition. I was just looking for any opinions anyone may have on these. They look impressive, are they worth a try? Are they a good choice for rock? Does "Linear Phase" really make a marked improvement on the sound? Thanks.

had a pair of 5000's the 2 way version nice but they did need a mid only downside is I think their fugly
 
They sound great. The tweets sound good but are fragile and practically unobtanium.
Make sure you get a demo or carry a VOM to measure the tweet. The wires run through the top of the mid-box
 
I have a pair and I like them very much. They will rock the house if called upon to do so and they sound great in the process. They're quite easy to drive and I like the fact that they're not your normal box speaker. Does the "linear phase" make a difference? I dunno. I do know they sound nice and probably the linear phase has something to do with the sound quality.
 
There are so many parameters in aligning phase between the drivers so when I see them staggered like that it makes me smile. I made such a speaker enclosure myself, btw

I recall listening to these loudspeakers decades ago, at a hifi show back between '78 and '80. Sounded really impressively loud but the sound was dry (in lack of a better description). It was back then that I decided british speakers do it for me and went the KEF way.

Regardless, these are very rare things to find and if they are cosmetically mint and all drivers work, get them unless the price is silly.
 
I have a pair and love the sound! Everyone who has heard them has been impressed. If you get them, put a 2 x 4 under the front to tilt them back a bit. There was a horny sound to the midrange before I did that, tilting them back gets rid of that. Take the time to dial in the tweeter and midrange controls until you get the sound just right.:thmbsp:
