So I just traded some 8' monitor speakers for these technics sb-e100's.

Don't know much about them but they sound sweet! Just wondering if anyone knows much about these or how much they are worth. I'm hoping I didn't get ripped off. :tears:

thanks fellas.

Ohh nice, the Early 80's SB-E series were Technics top end speakers. Quite expensive in their day, and if your 8" monitor speakers were worth $100 at best, I'd say you pretty much stole 'em cause those are worth some serious greenbacks, and they look to be very nice, aside from some dust, and the surrounds don't look too good, I'd venture to say they need new surrounds if they are original. You definitely got the better end of the deal, you lucky dawg!.

Looks as though you may need to find some of those odd looking speaker terminal nuts. I just got a pair of SB6000a's for a song, and they were in need of some love. Took a good cleaning, and another one to come soon, but I couldnt wait. I just opened them up to make sure no crap had gotten into them and then made sure all the wires were intact, and cleaned the terminals up well with deoxit, made sure the Lpads were smooth and tightened up any loose screws etc.

Hooking them up was a challenge. The terminals are just round posts, as opposed to having a hole through them, so the wire wraps around the post in this tiny channel. Had to swap from 12 to 14ga wire in order to get a fit. As soon as I hooked mine up, I got rid of my subwoofer, and just let these do all the work. Bass and treble were in no shortage! haha. I'd hope not as its a tweeter and a 12" :D

These high end Technics really do make them a hidden gem. Most people write off technics speakers as junk, but if you know what technics speakers are worth looking out for, you can snag nice cones :)

As for those... much nicer than mine. You did yourself quite well my friend. :tresbon:

yeah I plugged them in to make sure they worked and the sound was really really good! I sadly don't have much room in my studio for these seeing as I have 10" Mackies and 8" Korgs hooked up already. I'm debating wether or not to sell these but if I do decide to sell them how much should I ask for them? How much are they worth? or am I better off keeping these?

^^does anyone have an idea????

In keeping with AK rules, questions like this need to be asked over in the Dollar & Sense Forum! You should post this question there.

Technics did build a few nice speakers including the 7070, and a few other in the SB series. I have the component from the SB501 transplanted into differant boxes and they sound really good!

The ones you have are pretty rare, not offered here in the US audio shelves as I recall, probably an import or service item. They will ultimately be worth what people wil pay- and these days that is not much! I monitor the auction sites and it is pretty pitiful what really good speaker are brining.

Good luck- I do really like those and bet they sound quite exceptional!

Those are pretty beautiful! I say you scored big time!

@mortron - can you try to describe the sound of the SB6000A's ? There is one on CL not far from me that looks to be in good shape. Tweeter and woofer = simple crossover, easy to get right; big woofer and custom tweeter should mean good sound?

Those are beautiful, I've always wanted to see a pair of them. Great trade, you came out WAY on top!

last summer i sold a badly marked pair of these to some guy in Hong Kong for 850GBP (about 1100-1200USD) plus 550GBP shipping cost.

Hello chaps, I just saw a pair of these Technics SB-E100 speakers down the road in the recycled shop (here in Japan) priced at 38,000 yen.

Would they sound better than my Sonab OA14's?
