Technics SB-F2 Speakers Any experience with these

yungin's-dad

Last of the Baby Boomers
Hey all,

Yungin' and I have been listening to a pair of these that were given to us by a close friend. In my opinion they are serious Minimus 7 killers. Very bright, clean, and image like crazy. They need a sub, but then so do most very small two way speakers. I can't believe how good they sound, and they are built like a tank with extremely nice cross overs. They sold for $300 back in 1980.

So, let's hear your thoughts and/or experience with these little gems.

Ron

In my many "pocket-sized" brochures by Technics I have, these were integrated with their micro-component line of audio components, which I really liked the looks of.I can scan the pages in if you'd like. Rob

They look identical to the speakers on their boombox line. Nice styling, stills look good today, what happened to the rest of the system?

I've seen these on ebay quite a few times, but I never knew if they were decent enough to warrant a bid.

Now I know! Are the cabinets metal like the Minimus or plastic?

I've got a pair of these in black, and they sound pretty good. Thick aluminium chassis, protection circuit w/ reset button, and a 6M tripod mount in the base. 8Ohm / 50W RMS. But I'm currently just using mine as endsupports for the 45's on top of my IKEA Expedit...

Technics sold some cool tripods for the SB-F1/2/3's, but I've never seen them up for sale.

I remember selling these in my store in the early 80's with the micro systems.

They do remind me a lot of a very well made boom-box we carried back then from Sansui? I think it sold for around $400.
