Technics SH-9020 lettering

Sound Hound
So here it is: Just got a Technics SH-9020 peak meter, which looks different than the rest of the Technics SH-9020's I've seen thus far (The difference is the chrome finish). As evident from the pics, I NEED to know the peak at any given moment...:lmao::lmao: - just kidding - it goes on the living room system that has no meters :tears:)

However, My hunch is that the previous owner simply chromed the face, OVER THE LETTERING. It is just a guess, but in light of the fact that I've never seen a chromed face technics of that series before, and the no lettering situation, I am probably right (although I would have loved to know I was the owner of a one off unit...).

My challenge to the body of knowledge here is this: Does anybody have any suggestion to how I could re-letter it in a way that will not make it look like Frankenstein :yikes::bat:?

Also: I've seen the various Technics SH-9020 post here, some very very good once BTW (your jaw will fall when you see http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?p=786232 ), but could not find any hook up or operating instructions. Anybody here has users manual? What do all these knobs do? Will buy.

Thanks

I think some sign shops can make stickers somewhat inexpensively. They make them with a scanner and computer, the end product has carrier paper on both sides of the sticker, peel off the back side and place over panel, rub on panel and then peel off top paper. The sticker itself would be just the lettering so it wouldn't cover the entire face, kind of like the old "Letraset" rub on lettering (which is still around).

Good thought - thanks. But for that i need a good clear close up photo of the face - in a "close to live" size, won't I? Otherwise it all looks home made (and not in a good way )

Yeah looks like he just chromed the whole face. Doesn't look to bad but the lack of lettering is a dead give away. You might have trouble getting letter stickers to stick.

YEAHH!! TELL ME MORE ABOUT MY TROUBLES!!! :D
looks good, ahh?!

I still have no idea how to hook this thing up or how to work it, but I'm still young...

Could it be.

I have one and mine does not have slots in the sides.Could it be someone cromed a piece with the holes cut out and placed it over the original faceplate?Hard for me to see.

rstsgsas,
will it be too much of a hustle to ask you what is written on the face, how to hook it up and how to work it? :scratch2: It might just be your ticket to heaven...(you know: that place where LP's never scratch and never need to be cleaned...)

Ok

PM me an email address and I will send you some pics of the lettering and somewhere here I believe I have the owners manual.Ill find it and send you some scans of it.Might take a few days.

Legaleagle, I believe the front panel is probably aluminum so it can't be chromed I don't think. Someone probably sanded it with 2000 grit and hit it with the buffer. It's an interesting look.I think the vinyl lettering idea is a good one because you can choose any kind of font you want.Olde english might be a cool look.It will be a bitch peeling the top tape layer from those small letters though!
