With the information I found here on Audiokarma I was able to completely restore a Technics SL-10 to full working condition.
What I would like to share is my solution for the bulb, that was dead.
The solution I used was to replace the bulb with a LED (5mm, 3,5V/20mA, warm white).
As a bonus I now have a 'moonlight' during playback.
First I removed the old bulb - notice the PCB, above LAMP, is badly burned:
From a working SL-10 I found that the bulb uses 12V/90mA. So my LED would be a good replacement. I added a 390 ohm resistor (because I had it - should have been 590 ohm). The resistor is fixed on the -V side of the LAMP position, in series with R430. I also added a LED mounting plastic.
Once everything was put together I found that during play the LED would not dim....(should have read the notes). I changed R430 to different values and ended up with 100K.
To my surprise I now have a very faint light during playing that is just enough to see the record when it's very dark.
Here are photo's of the two states (the camera did overexpose a little).
