Technics SL-10 hinge resistance

I have had an SL-10 for a while now and I have it all tuned up and recapped and it works great. The only issue is that I would like to use the angled stands I have for it as I just think it looks cool. Problem is the hinge spring is a bit weak and stuggles to keep the top open when it is sitting angled on the stands. It works fine when sitting flat, but not on the stands. I have looked and it and didn't see an obvious way to increase the tension on the spring other than trying to pull it tigher and hook it further along the spring, which is not ideal to say the least.

Anybody have any experience with this or have the same issue? It will stay open if I hold it for a second or two, but if I were to bump the shelf it falls shut roughly.

I have one of my SL-10's propped up on a pill box and no problems with opening and closing the lid. But, I have to say the pill box does not give a lot of height.
