Hi, I'm new to the turntable world and I just got myself a new Technics SL-1200 MK2. My question is..... would a Audio Technica AT15sa cartridge work with the Technics? Or can anyone recommend a good cartridge and stylus? I'm not a DJ or will do any DJ stuff, I just want to listen to some nice vinyl for a change. Thanks in advance for all the help.

AT15Sa is a very good cartridge. Sa means shibata stylus, the forerunner of the modern Micro-Line or Line Contact stylus. If you have one and it needs a stylus, by all means buy it one. The 15 was one of the upper end AT carts in the older line. Now replaced by the 150 (one of their top line cartridges).

Yes, the AT15Sa will be a killer Cartridge on that Table. Just pay close attention to set-up of Table-Arm. If you have any unknowns, like what Vertical Tracking Force is, Alignment, etc, we'll help out. Original AT Replacement Stylus is available if you think you need one, from LP Gear. Mark

Thanks guys for all the help and info, but I lost out on the AT15Sa.:tears: Kind of bummed, but I'm looking around and checking out the other threads and I'm getting some excellent ideas for other cartridges. And I'm still open for any recommendations (budget around $150 but still looking for deals). My TT is in the mail so I still have some time to shop around. Oh by the way I paid $172 for my Technics SL-1200 MK2 "New in Open Box" on Ebay, so life isn't really that bad. :thmbsp:

Is there a Tutorials thread for Tracking Force, Alignment, etc? I'll look around. Thanks again for all the help! This place is great!!

AT440mla would fit your budget and sounds killer on SL-1200 according to tons of users. It must be the most popular TT/cart combo around here.

Just search turntable set-up and you will be a lot of hits on the web with lots of reading. Good that you are asking before having a problem. There is even a youtube tutorial if you are so inclined.
