Technics SL 1200 serial # = date ??

Dating mine was pretty easy... I have an mk5 that according to wikipedia they only started producing in 2002... first digit is a 3 so only possibility is 2003.

I know mine was the old dating but I'm not sure when it was made. My serial number is NHOHF28128. Any ideas?

Yours looks to me like the "new" system. The old one is two letters followed by four characters that determine the date, then a few more characters.

Mine is SN MJ3201D177, so should be pretty close.

Here was the reply I received this evening:

The 3rd digit signifies the year it was manufactured and the 4th signifies the month . SL-1200 is a series of turntables originally manufactured from 1972 until 2010 . SL-1200MK2 was released in 1979 .


I know mine is one of the earlier ones because the dust cover hinges are different and the RCAs have the cover over the hole.

So... would Serial # MJ3912D108 = September 1983 ? (3rd digit starting with M?) <--- I think this is correct

or

would Serial # MJ3912D108 = February 1981 ? (3rd digit starting with the first "digit" = Number?)
