Technics SL-1300 Mk2 Arm Lock Screw not turning smoothly

I found another SL-1300 Mk2 for a price that was too hard to turn down. The Arm Lock Screw was kind of stuck, so I used a screw driver to get it to move and got the VTA where I want it, but the threads feel gummy. I'd like to take it out and clean it and lubricate it, but I don't want things to fall apart inside so that I'd have to take it all apart to get it back together. (I have another one sitting here where I got in too deep and now it won't go back together. At least I have some spare parts).

Anything I should watch out for? What lubricant should I use?
