Technics sl-1610 mk2

I picked up this technics SL-1610mk2 for a song. The platter wouldn’t start. Took it apart to inspect and found the tone arm belt missing. I replaced the belt and once it put the tone arm mechanisms back where it wanted it, the platter started turning and everything came to life. So it’s a working sl-1610 for $100. I thought I’d share this in case someone comes across on that the platter won’t start.

Anyway. Where does the 1610 sit in the technics lineup? It reminds me of a 1200 with full auto. It certainly weighs similarly. I’ve owned more than a few technics turntables including an original 1600 but I think this one’s a keeper.

It's a top notch tt. Better than all the cheapened manufacturing models that followed. Kick back and enjoy, no reason to worry about how good cause there are thousands that are better and thousands that are worse, but the better isn't as much better as the worse are bad. I like my 1600 II but prefer the Sony PS-X7 I just gave to my nephew. The 1600II is my keeper automatic/semi-auto. I need something to play records where I don't have to respond when the needle reaches the leadout groove. I have 4 manuals set up.

Ya I was just messing around with some of the adjustments. This is one of the best quality turntables I’ve worked on the tone arm has zero play I’m very impressed and this is a keeper for sure.
