Technics Sl-1700 45 RPM too slow

Finally upgraded from a Sony PS-LX150 to a Technics. The knob to turn from 33 | 45 is very stiff, and it seems like the 45 RPM is running a few revolutions too slow, even with the pitch maxed out. There are many threads that point to cleaning off the contacts from under the turntable, but no specific guide with a 1700. Also, from one of the pictures, am i missing the two screws where you are able to manually adjust the pitch, or its supposed to be the two holes there? If not, after spraying down the pots and cleaning them and re-lubing, some guides say to reset the speeds by screwing something to 12:00 o clock..where exactly is this screw?

So if anyone is able to help guide me through or have any ideas as to how to resolve this issue that would be great!

Welcome to the AK turn table forum.

See the two round "switch/pot" label as 33 and 45 in the lower left hand side of picture #2, spray and clean those two.

Also spray and clean the two speed selector, VR3 and VR4, see page 8 of the service manual.

Balifly thanks for the response, sounds good to me. Ive been a lurker on the threads here for a while, and finally this problem was an excuse to make an account! I have some deoxit for the contact cleaner portion, but is there any grease you specifically use?

Please do not use any grease in the items mentioned in the previous post. :no:

This is excellent advice. I had to do the same for my SL-1600 and immediately the speeds became steady and easily adjustable.

haha ya that was just for the speed selector, its super stiff. So after the cleaner, i was wondering if it needs to be greased. But i guess not! Thanks all! After my Deoxit comes in, ill give an update.

You are correct, the selectors are quite stiff.

Exercise them when you are using the DeOxit, they may loosen up .

My has a Denon DL-301 mc cartridge on it, very capable tone arm! :)

hmm, How exactly does the bottom get removed on a Technics 1700? It seems that there are the two plastic parts that are in the way..and I'm lost as to how the bottom is removed.

Edit 2: I was able to lift it somewhat abd spray the 33 & 45 pots aswell as the speed selector. Much smoother now! BUT, the main problem of me only hitting 43.2 RPM's persists.

You can adjust the "45" adjuster under the platter... that's the "coarse" adjust and the one on top with the knob is the "fine" adjust.
