Technics SL-6 Cartridge/Needle advice

I recently acquired a Technics SL-6. It came with the AT-122LP Cartridge.

Based on other posts here, I have narrowed down my choices to the following 3 Choices. Looking for some advice on which option is best from an audio quality perspective and if I should be looking at something else. I was hoping to spend about a max 50 for this.

1. Replace cartridge with Audio Technica AT-3482P (New)
2. Replace cartridge with Audio Technica SS335E (Old Stock New)
3. Replace the Needle in AT-122LP with Pfanstiehl 212

Thanks for your thoughts and advice.

Hi

I have a similar question. I also acquired an SL-6 with a EPC-23 Cartridge. Not sure if I should replace the cartridge or the needle.
Any needle recommendations would be most welcome.

Welcome Sean!

Considering the three you have listed, I did not personally care for the Pfanstiehl 212. It requires more than standard tracking force and to me just wasn't that great.

The AT3482P is a great cartridge/stylus in my opinion, and I really like it, but it is a spherical stylus which would be considered technically inferior to the elliptical stylus of the SS335E. And the cost would be about the same.

The SS335E is an elliptical stylus and has the potential to do a bit better job of retrieving the information off of the record, and at a price similar to the AT3482P. This would be my recommendation if your records are in decent condition.

I'm sorry that I cannot advise anything about the EPC cartridge as it is unfamiliar to me. I would offer the same advice, that the SS335E which is available for a reasonable price would be a good option.
