I've recently picked up a Technics SL-7 linear tracking table and discovered a little hack for cleaning records with an anti-static brush that I wanted to share.
For those unfamiliar with the SL-7, the turntable lid needs to be closed and latched before the record will spin/play. This makes for a nice and easy set-it-and-forget-it kind of system. If, however, you're in the habit of spinning a record on your table and using an anti-static brush to clean each side before playing, you're not normally able to do that with this type of table. As someone who likes to use this cleaning method, it was a major drawback for me.
Cleaning Workaround: Through playing around with the table, I've found a workaround that allows the record to spin while the lid is open:
1. With the lid open, engage the tonearm lock located next to the tonearm/cartridge near the top right side of the open lid.
2. With lock securing the tonearm and the lid still open, press and hold down the white switch/button located at the top left corner of the table (not the lid).
3. While holding down this button and with the lid still open, press the start button on the table. The record will start to spin and the tonearm lock will stop the tonearm from dropping down. As long as you keep the white switch depressed, the record will continue to spin, allowing you time to clean the record with an anti-static brush.
4. When you have finished cleaning the record, release the white switch and the table will automatically stop. You can then remove the tonearm lock, close the lid, and play the record as usual.
