Technics SL-B10, P-mount cartridge vs 1/2" mount

Have an SL-B10 with an AT 403EP P-mount cart (with a third-party stylus replacement). I stumbled across an adapter on e-Bay to mount a 1/2" mount cart in a P-mount. I have an unused Shure M97xE that I would like to try. Any thoughts on whether these adapters work well, and which cart would be better - the original AT or the Shure?

Depends on the adapter and cost of the adapter. :)

Got a photo of this adapter?
But you won't need any adapters to use the N97xE stylus on your p-mount B10 turntable. You would need to buy an inexpensive Shure p-mount body. An M92E will do, but there are many others.

I'm suggesting something that looks like this:

Never seen or heard of an adapter to put a standard 1/2" mount cartridge on a P mount arm. P mount cartridge to 1/2" adapters are common, though.

I tried a P-Mount adapter on my half inch head shell on my Dual once - the Adapter changed the vertical tracking angle too much and it was obvious that it affected the sound. I suspect the same would happen in the reverse on the Technics (I have an SL-D20 - great tables!). The p-mount setup is designed so everything is perfect - alignment, VTA, the works. Use an adapter and I suspect it would change all that and affect the sound.

There are more things in heaven and earth than were dreamt of in my question...Thanks for the tip!

You can always use the adapter on a standard-mount turntable which, if you hang around here long enough, you'll inevitably buy.
But if you do a search on that eBay thing for shure p-mount, you'll find some very inexpensive Shure bodies (a bit more than $10 shipped) that will accept the M97xE's stylus, and you'll still get the typical M97xE sound.

Does not exist. You have an adapter for P mount on a 1/2" cartridge but not vice versa. T4p mount accepts only T4p mount cartridges. You with that system have 6 grams mass, and 1.25 grams tracking force optimum with a range of 1-1.5 grams to work with for tracking force. However, the suggestion to find a Shure T4p mount body which accepts the M97xE stylus is a viable way to try that cartridge.,

Thanks all for the tips & info. I think I have it straight now. Live and learn...Anyone want to buy a 1/2" to P- mount adaptor?

By the way, my OTHER (main) TT is a Dual 1019 with Shure V15Type IV and JICO SAS stylus. I got the M97xE as replacement for the Shure before I knew about JICO.
