Technics SL-BD22 Fix

Hi,

On my old college days Technics SL-BD22 TT the cueing lifter for the tonearm is frozen in place. The cueing control seems to be working but the lifter doesn't move (stuck in the down position). Is the TT worth the trouble to fix or should it pass on.

Thanks

It could be an easy fix, so it's worth trying. Have you tried lifting it up with your fingers. Try to work it up and down and see if you can get movement there. Sometimes a drop of lubricant can get it moving. If not you could just open it up and see if something mechanical is out of whack. I can tell you that the turntable is worth about $10-25 today, so if you can't fix it, use it manually or send it on its way. Just to put it in perspective, the same style Technics (p-mount) but with quartz lock direct drive is more desirable as the specs and sound quality are less affected by the light weight of the table and platter.

I would take the cuing mechanism apart, remove the old, hardened damping compound and install new compound. I use Panasonic part # SZZ0L11 -- silicone oil.
