Hello,
My first post here so please let me know if I am doing this incorrectly. I just caught the Vintage Audio Bug . I used to run a Service Merchandise Sound Department in 1977-1979 so a lot of these names are shaking loose some cobwebs.
I just came from a "Everything Junk" store that has a Technichs SL-d2 . Has the cover ( but very scuffed) . Both hinges appeared good. Has the 45 adaptor and the wiring. There is a Short black wire that I think used to be a ground wire. It is cut off about 4" from the base. All 4 feet are good. Someone appears to have put some sort of rubber dressing on the "platter" which isn't very nice. Arm appears to be all there . Has a pickering cartridge on it. I did not yet plug it in. The base needs a good cleaning. It is marked at $50.00. I would be interested in keeping, or possible clean it up for resale. Any advise from you guys would be greatly appreciated by this rookie. Thank you in advance.

Hello Jeff, and welcome!

Just my opinion, but if you are looking to get back into playing records again, I would search your local Craigslist for a turntable that you can audition.

BTW, the SL-D2 is a workhorse. A good solid semi-auto direct drive turntable.

Where are you located? We might be able to look and recommend a few.
 
With the big resurge in the vinyl world, $50,- isnt a bad price in todays market. Provided that its in good working order. You can always try getting it cheaper.

Its a great starters table which has proven itself the last 30 years or so. If you like it, just keep it.

The price for the unit is acceptable, at least in my area. :)
 
$50 for a working SL-D2 that could clean up nice is in the ballpark I think, as long as there are no expensive problems encountered. It better spin at something close to the right speed and have a tonearm that feels like it moves properly. It would sell fast here at that price anyways.

Marked at $50? Bet you could offer $30 and maybe get it for $40.

That's what I was thinking. If the arm bearings are OK, it shouldn't require much more than cleaning, lubrication, treatment of the speed adjust pots with DeOxit, and some quality time spent polishing the dust cover with the appropriate grades of Novus plastic polish. I'd be sorely tempted to drop $40 on a solid SL-D2 with some cosmetic issues if I ran across one, and I'm not even looking for a turntable at the moment.
 
Thank You guys for all the advise. I am gonna let it "simmer" a few days , then go over and plug it in and see how quiet the motor is and check the speed. I will let you know how it turns out. By the way…I am familiar with Novus products, but have never used DeOxit. I see there are like 9 million different types of DeOxit. Any help for this "newbie" as to which versions to purchase would greatly be appreciated.
