Technics SL-D3 speed issue- slightly fast

Hello all,

My TT has been rock solid for a long time. Tonight however the speed was off. I tried adjusting the pitch dial, but even when turned all the way right(?) it’s still a little too fast and the strobe is walking slowly to the left. It stays locked in at this speed, but it’s too fast. Looking for help on where to start first before I crawl down a rabbit hole of capacitors. Thanks for any help.

Try cleaning those speed adjustment pots with contact cleaner or isopropyl. Can’t remember but I think you just spray directly in the pots’ circular opening. Then move fully back and forth many, many times. This got my D2 going. But it was experiencing sudden shifts in speed.

I bet a bit of cleaning will get it up and running!

^^^ This....I had issues with my D2 doing the same.....cleaned the speed pots with contact cleaner...no more issues.

I tried some deoxit on the dial but no luck. This does not look like the pot that I’ve seen online though. Not sure if I’m doing it right. I’m posting a pic of what the dial looks like where I’m spraying. I tried to attach a video too, but looks like those aren’t allowed? Not sure what is next…

So I pulled up the service manual and found there are two speed adjustment screws under the platter. All I needed to do was adjust one of them. That was a lot easier than taking the whole player apart!
