Technics SL-M3 questions

The Grado has conical options but it must track at ca 1.25 to work as a 'P'. The Shure M92E 'P' may have compatible options

I'm going to order a Digitrac 300SE on Tuesday. Thanks for everyone's opinion, I really appreciate it. Merry Christmas!

I'm using a close variant in a Studer-ReVoX B795 LT and it's very good indeed.
The SL-M3 is a sort of rare bird, there are any number of decent 1/2" LTs to each one of these survivors. Probably the best 'P' mount LT ever.

Ortofon cartridges are excellent, but there are no Ortofon conical options in P-Mount. I play a lot of 45 singles, and no ellipticals or line contacts will do for styrene anything. I now have a Broadcast E and several Ortofon OM compatible conical styli options on my 1/2" setup. But not knocking P-Mount if your LP collection is post 1970. It is good for fumble fingered LP users who meet that criteria. I love Ortofons.

I beg to differ:

The 3xx series of p-mount cartridges have the spherical Stylus305
The OMP/TM series of p-mount cartridges can use the OM DJ range - OM scratch, pro, pro-s, etc...

BUT - the OM DJ carts are rather heavy tracking - so there is a need to check whether the arm is sufficiently adjustable. (they were not intended for p-mount use!)

The 305 is designed (self evidently) for p-mount use.

bye for now

David

p.s. not implying that it would necessarily be appropriate for your purpose - but sphericals are definitely available on p-mount Ortofon fitting...

There's also a spherical stylus for the Digitrac cartridges (the 190S), which was manufactured by Ortofon.

I may be looking at one of these this weekend. It's missing the power cord and cartridge. I have a P-mount cartridge to toss on there but can someone take a pic of the power cord socket? I'd like to take a cord with me if I can. It makes me suspicious that the seller is hiding a problem if he can't find the cord.

You might also think about upgrading the stylus of the 92. I am running N104e on mine. Big improvement in a bunch of ways.

Can't say for sure on the M3, but all the Technics p-mount era decks that I've seen use a fairly standard AC cable, similar to this one.

Yes, it is the standard oval two-prong power plug, same as some other Technics and Sony gear I have. This is the original Technics cable, pulled out of the back of my M3. It is labelled 7A 125V.

The plug face is 15mm by 8mm. Plugs dimpled in on the sides will work, but some variations that are flat on one end will not. Chances are, you have something else around the house with a power cable that will work.

Wow, thanks for the info. I have a plug similar to the one's pictured except that it's polarized, flat on the one end. That's easy to modify.
Thanks again.

Nice taste in music BTW...
