Technics SL-Q200

Hi,

I recently acquired a Techincs SL-Q200. I have a few questions about it. Is it fully automatic? I don’t believe so since it’s not linear. I also was wondering if anybody had the manual in pdf format that they could give to me.

Thanks

Hi,

The SL-Q200 is a fully automatic Quartz-Lock Direct Drive turntable from 1983/84 that had an MSRP of $140 USD. It usses the P-Mount T4P cartridge system, and while not as desierable as earlier Technics decks, it can sound decent if set up properly. With the P-Mount T4P system, all you need to do is make sure the unit is level. There is no Tracking Force or Anti-Skating to adjust, it's been pre-set at the factory.

Ussing this unit is pretty stright forward. Place a record on the platter and hit the START button... As far as a manual, I did not come across one in the Vinyl Engine. You may be able to find one on the WEB if you look around. Maybe eBay. The Q200 was a lower-end Quartz-Lock DD model (no offense) so there might not be a lot out there.

No, that's not correct. The SL-Q200 is semi-automatic. It was the SL-Q300 that was fully automatic. With the SL-Q200 you manually move the arm over and set it down on the record. You can use the cueing switch to gently lift or raise it. When the record is finished playing the arm will automatically return to the arm rest.

Make sure to attach the ground wire to your receiver/amp/preamp. The cartridges simply plug into the arm. When changing the cartridge, there is a horizontal screw you have to remove and then replace when the new cartridge is in place. Otherwise, it is as Joey stated and no manual needed as there really isn't anything else to know. However the manual for the SL-Q30 (full automatic, but similar to yours and covers all this) is over at the library section of vinylengine.com.

I have one. It's Semi-Automatic. No speed change controls, except 33/45, so that means NO pitch control.

I sold one recently to someone who did not like the hassle of searching for replacement belts (for his Pioneer turntable). It is not a bad turntable at all. Semi-auto makes it very convenient to use.

I have found lots of mistakes in the literature. Nothing new.

I found this forum and this thread on Google. I know it's old, but need a little help.

I got one of these turntables at an estate sale a few days ago. Needs a stylus (no problem) and ground cable. But I need to know how to adjust the arm. It is in the up position all the time (no jokes, please) and I need to know how to lower it.

Yes, the CUE adjustment is down. I turn the adjustment on the back end of the arm to no avail, unless I am doing something wrong (or it is only an anti-skate adjustment).

I have a Technics SL-DD33 turntable already and figured I would use this one as a back up or in another room.

Welcome to the AK turn table forum.

Which cartridge are you using? :scratch2:

Here is a link to the owner's manual in case you don't already have one.

None. It didn't come with one. Maybe that's the problem? No weight on the front? I have not encountered this problem as of yet with a turntable, but the other Technics I have came with one, but the Sony in my office didn't and I did not have this type of problem with the arm.

Have a look at the Audio Technica AT 92ECD.

Very good performance at a very reasonable price. :music:
