Technics SL-QX300 Quartz DD Auto

Just picked up this Technics SL-QX300 along with some other nice early 80's Technics gear. The original stylus was shot so I replaced the cartridge & stylus with an Empire 380LT I have from a Technics SL-Q200. This is a solid turntable! Everything works as it should. It was actually close to the TOTL for automatic Technics turntables when it was released. With a good needle you will get great sound out of one of these!

Actually, I think the SL-Q200 and 300 are entry level Technics DD P mount turntables, TOTL were SL-M# series and the heavier linear trackers. The Technics turntables as a group were very well made for their price levels.

I think all of us would agree that the Technics direct drive tables are the standout value in older Japanese turntables. My old SL Q2 is still plugging along, I bought it around 1980.

Ok..there's the SL-Q300 and the SL-QX300 I have the QX model, I also have an SL-Q200 but you're right, the SL-M1 was the TOTL automatic turntable Technics made in 83-84.. SL-QX300 which I have was the #2 quart auto DD.. The TOTL manual was the SL-1000MK3D followed by the legendary SL-1200MK2.. They also had some nice linear tracking models these years. The SL-1000MK3D is similar to the SP-15 that had the separate tonearm and controls. I attached pics of the 83-84 catalog but unfortunately I could only find the German one..

I wasn't familiar with the 1000, nice!

Since you pointed it out to me.. I'd love to get my hands on one of those SL-M1's! That thing is sweet! I already have a minty SL-1210M5g which is my pride and joy Turntable! But if I can every find an SL-M1 for the right price I wouldn't pass it up!

I once had a super clean Panasonic Linear Tracking turntable can't remember the model number.. it actually had built in speakers and a headphone jack! Also had built in preamp.. It wasn't high quality but it was definitely unique! That's one I wish I wouldn't of sold. Doubt I'll ever find another.

i found one.. Panasonic SL-N25C it also had an 1/8 inch line input as well the 1/8 inch headphone output.. plus the built in speakers which I remembered sounded like crap.. but definitely a cool concept. Looks like they can be found for pretty cheap..

I have a QX-300 as well. How is the suspension on yours? Mine was pretty much shot. I used the glove fix to get it going, but would like a different solution.

Mine is in pretty good all around shape.. I swapped the cover and tonearm holder from my Sl-Q200. I also replaced the cartridge and stylus. It came with the original Technics cartridge but the stylus was shot.. I was gonna buy a new stylus but I found a super clean SL-Q200 at a thrift store with a nice Empire 380LT T4P For half the price of a replacement stylus! The Sl-q200 is actually a really decent entry level DD turntable.

In the Japanese turn table line up.

The semi-auto or auto return turn table are usual one step below the top of the line full auto.

The manual model is usually regarded as the entry level model.
