Technics SP10 MK2 setup complete

Back in 2018 I took delivery of one of the first SP10R’s available in Canada. I had it set in my Technics SP10 MK2 obsidian plinth and enjoy it immensely to this day.

Shortly after, I started on a project to complete a setup based around the older SP10 MK2 motor unit. Well, finally after four and a half years the project is complete.

The plinth, while rather crudely built, is made of 4 layers of 15mm Baltic birch, 1 layer of MDF, and clad with a layer of finish laminate from IKEA. I see this as my trial and error prototype for a more professional build some day.

I bought a Jelco 750E just before they announced their demise from the tonearm market. I installed a SAE1000LT I purchased after reading the pros and cons of that cartridge (I must say the pro side wins IMO, absolute no brainer for $100).

The end result is that this thing sounds great. I feel the 10’’ Jelco and the SAE mate really well, the SP10 motor speaks for itself, and the plinth? Well it sounds pretty good for what it is. I’m happy.

Congrats, that's a nice looking rig. I too am a Jelco fan. Just wish I had bought another one before they closed their doors.

Excellent result …I have the same unit plus a custom plinth that has taken years to get here …I’m soon ready to attach the unit to the plinth , I am wondering if it’s best to screw the units tight together or some cushioning/ gasket to isolate…?

When mounting my DP-80 to the plinth I used washers from Herbie's and was very pleased with the result.

I got the mat quite a few years ago from a company in Ontario Canada. They made beautifully machined turntables and turntable parts from alloys but also made some acrylic mats. This one is painted acrylic. The company was called TT Weights.
