As a guy who first real job in live was repairing, selling and installing Hifi, radio, and television sets back in the late 70 begin 80ties (yesss I'm that old...) I basicly got bias towards the Technics brand...
I know, I know... it is always seen as the Panasonic sub brand witch it was, and the use of board as part of the bottem but also construcion does not have a big fan base, but there design of the equipment is, even today,Spot on...
So Now i'm a little older and find I have some extra to spent, I set out to track down some of those pieces...
I recently bought a ST-8011 Tuner.
It just is a very pretty little tuner...don't you think? and a nice set with it's live long partner the SU 8022
First test I was not to impressed with the prefomance. Granted...I have no Real FM Antenna, I'm Located i an area where FM reception is not the best...but two stations with lots of static and only mono??
So opend the sucker up, cleaned the switches, and replaced the supply caps...and Almost doubled the filtering in the supply...
Power on... no smoke (thats always good
) connected it again to it loving SU-8022 Amp... Dangggggg atleast 20 stations and lots with no static in stereo...!!! Totaly over the moon...
Now a few small upgrades....
1 .Cut of the output wire,
2 .Mounted two Nice shiny RCA connectors on the back.
3. Used some Militairy Radar Style silver Coax (3 mm) to reconnect the output.
4. Replaced the output caps 0,22 uf 25 volt electrolyts with Mallory 0,22 600 VDC Poly props
5. Used the original wire output hole in the back to mout an extra Ground connector.
After those few small upgrades I sat down, listing to a stereo transmission..... Wauw... That was unexpected somehow there is way more clarity, definition... even with that simple su-8022 Amp and a Headphone...
Now it is just standing there, let the caps settle into there new surroundings... And me... over the moon with this Repair and Upgrade succes (although it was a small one)
O by the way... The original 1979 shop stickers who sold this set are still on both pieces..
