Technics SU-8088 heating too much?

Hello all,

Thank you to all the members, both seekers and helpers, who make this website a living reference for hifi and audio related care.

I just bought a Technics SU-8088 in its original state, no revisions or repairs done (supposedly, ever).

I tried it with headphones, played 3 or 4 songs using a CD player connected in the aux port: all functions work and it has a great sound.

However, after this 5 minute listening test, I turned it off, and the case was very warm, such that I could not touch it for more than a 2 or 3 seconds.

Is this too much heat for such an amplifier?

The bias was (supposedly) never adjusted. Should I endeavour in adjusting it? If so, I was planning to follow the instructions in the thread:

Any advice on how to avoid electric shock while doing so?

There should be 2 points each to check bias on the output amps. What I do , to not get bit , is : With AC off ,connect a meter to the points that the manual says to then, power on . Bias shouldnt be more than 50-70mV . Usually , it's around 15-30mV

NOt sure if this one has DC offest adjust . That would help too
