Technics SU-8600 Integrated Amp Transistor replacements?

Howdy- Am tearing into a Technics Su-8600 amp and looking for info on replacement transistors for the following:
2SA798- double transistor- I see a lot of people recommend using 2 KSA992's?

And these also- 2SA794 complementary with - 2SC1567

2SA794/2SC 1567 Can these be KSA1220 and KSC2690? Or KSA1381 and KSC3503?

It also has several 2SC828 in it.

2SC1509
2SA794
2SA777
2SC1328

Common replacements for the 2SC828 are BC550 but respect the gain suffix, 16, 25 or 40 or the 2N3904.
The 2SA794 can be replaced by the KSA1220.
The 2SA777 with a KSA1013
The 2SC1328 with a KSC2240.

Take note that any of these replacements are not an exact substitute and can have different pinouts.
Always check before replacing, and if necessary at all.
 
just the endless cycle of part is obsolete, need a substitute. This for me is the more frustrating part of solid state electronics, constantly chasing down substitutes for things.

gadget73, I'm with you in that chasing down replacements is a pain. The real question is, why? I'm missing something as to why so many excellent amps and receivers of the day had transistors that are now obsolete. Why not just leave well enough alone? Are the substitutes much better? Working on a SAE 2401 I have already had to chase down several different transistor substitutes. Just me two cents. Cheers!
 
Some transistors were designed and made specifically for a piece of equipment, some were general use, some have been replaced by better performing transistors -- lots of improvements in semiconductor manufacturing. Also lots of changes in designs -- Darlington pair designs were replaced by PNP/NPN pairs as the output quality of the pairs improved, along with current carrying capacity. No need for a pair of transistors linked for each side of the push-pull circuit when a single transistor will work.

And, these days, switching "chip amps" have taken over the market and old school linear power supply analog style amps are disappearing, which means the market for the transistors is disappearing.
 
yeah there are definitely cases of mfg-specific parts. I have an old Sherwood that has proprietary part numbers on several things including the outputs. I doubt they are really anything unique, but without a spec sheet its annoying to prove that. Can't drop by my local Sherwood dealer for parts for an amp made in 1967 though so if it ever loses an output transistor it'll be a case of figuring out what will get the job done.
