Technics system remote control specs

Hi

I've been wondering: My Technics SL-P110 has this connector for a remote control:

I would like to bring my CD player to the mid-eighties by building a little IR receiver that I can hook up to this port. Would anyone happen to have specs for this? What protocol does it speak? How is the wiring?

That would indeed seem to be the case. The big question is, which exact signals does the receiver send to the CD player. If I knew that, I should be able to build a little device that sends the same signals...
 
Do you know the controlling receiver model number? The information may be in the service manual. I have a JVC service manual that has a page on this..

Good idea.

The SA-R receivers from the late eighties (SA-R177/210/230/277/310/330/377/410/430/477/510/530) seem to have the same remote connectors but they typically say "Tape", so I assume that the CD player would be connected to the tape deck, not directly to the receiver. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any tape deck that actually has this connector (or a service manual for any of the receivers) so far...

Your player was probably part of a combo package (like we saw in dept. stores) and used proprietary connectors and cables. Sony had some, too. Might have been hooked to a small box that the remote would transmit to. Later circuitry was incorporated in each unit making these connections obsolete.
Considering the prices of used cd players with/ without remotes. the orig. remotes or workable replacement remotes aren't costly.

I'm pretty sure this one was sold individually, but yes, it would make sense that they were also sold in combos. Also, it's not that I need a remote control (none of my other devices are remote-controllable), I'm mostly just curious. And, of course, ever so slightly upset that there is a secret feature that I can't use. :)
 
I looked up the model and North American models don't have that connection on the back.. Only the EU models. Hmmm
