Oh joy. Based on a more modern McIntosh preamp I saw, it looks like Mac is hopping on the "Bling" bandwagon. The preamp had green LEDs under the tubes to shine through them. Made what was probably a nice product look super tacky.

PLUS, the mass of that would help dampen resonance. I wonder which has better damping properties, stout or IPA?

Optimus: not any kind of $30 steal, but if you like them...
Acoustic Audio: looks pretty terrible, also looks like this lady has a shop with lots of speakers
Mitsubishi SS-3000: probably from an 80s rack system set? I dunno..

If it were me, I'd pursue the Missions in the first link above. I've only heard a few pairs of Missions, but I think they do a nice job.

I've had two pairs. They are...meh. Not great but better than a pair of Panasonic Thrusters.
