Telefunken Opus 2550 Console - a good deal?

ckastner78

Speaker Hoarder
Hey all,

I'm about to go pick up a Telefunken Opus 2550 console radio / turntable tomorrow for $200. Does anyone know in fact if this is a good deal? I'll of course check to see that it works first. I've seen the Opus 2550 in receiver form go for $550 on eBay before, but I'm wondering is the value greater or lesser in console form. And another note, does anyone know whether the drivers in this would be field coils or not? :scratch2: :deal:

Thanks for your help!

I'm about to take off to go get this. I'm assuming it's a good deal console or not. Hopefully I'm not making a mistake here ...

These Tele consoles are worth a little. Take a flat blade screw driver.

Ive got that ones little sister called the Princess II.

You've got to know that the Tele radio wont interact with modern equipment without adapters since the Tele only accepts hi level inputs. This includes the Turntable.
I kept the radio set in mine as stand alone and added a different TT and Tube amp inside. Speakers replaced also.

I also got mine for $125. and like projects.

I'd dicker the price. The TT is really a rotating disc scratcher and to re-tube as you probably will need to, will cost over $100 (or more).

I'll bet your the only real looker. Play to the economy

That aside. The Opus was one of Telefunkens mid-hi end excellent sets.
Oh yeah, It will need refurb also.

Check the bass and treble wheels and the function of all the buttons. I had a problem with alot of frozen stiff, German grease
Stereo model? probably doesnt work. Its a seperate MPX. Check it.

Non stereo? price reduction.

Id try to get them down a bit. damage to to speaker grill is a BIG problem. The speakers are PM style and may have an active crossover

Good luck and let us know. :thmbsp:

Is this is the one in Ft. Collins? They had it list on CL last Feb for $600 IIRC which was way too high. With the cabinet damage I wasn't interested unless it was closer to $100.

It's got regular speakers in it (probably 5 ohm) and should be a decent unit when brought back up to spec. It would be worth more as a smaller receiver, there's not much demand for larger consoles. I would have looked into it if I wasn't out of console space. With three consoles here I think I'm pushing the max that a normal wife would deal with...

Let us know how it worked out for you.
