Telefunken Opus 5550

Hello all,

I am intrigued by a Telefunken Opus 5550 receiver I have come across. I am unsure what to offer. There is one priced on Ebay, but it is sort of an "I hope I can snag somebody" price, not very realistic. It is in pretty good condition, but I have not brought it up on a variac to test if it works or not. What is a good "untested" price for one of these in good cosmetic condition that might need a recap?

I take it the one you are looking at is local and not the ebay one?

Did you check completed sales on ebay? There may not be any as it is not a common piece. At least here in the US.

Not sure I can hazard a good guess. Is it a complete receiver - tuner + preamp + power amp? Looks like it is, 16W of push pull parallel ECC95s. Hmm. We'll see what the rest of the gang thinks.

Yeah, this is not one on Ebay.

Untested, and the owner isn't sure how to test it. I begged them not to plug it in unless they knew it was functional (to save me the work of putting any smoke back in that they might let out).

I like the look of it, and the cabinet. My guess is working it is about a $200 unit on Ebay. I made an offer, I'll see what they come back with.

It looks to be a complete receiver, but it is more like a tuner with an amp in the same cabinet. The tuner section and amp section are separate like in a console. DIN inputs for AUX.

Definitely not more than $200. Maybe more in the $100 range. Assuming it's complete, it's still going to need restoration in order to play safely, and that's a fair amount of work. Work that we often undervalue when we do it ourselves.
