Telefunken Opus 7 w/ Matching Powered Speaker

I just picked up a Telefunken Opus 7 with a matching powered speaker. I normally don't pick up German radios but the price was right - $25.00! Normally I work on antique radios (before 1950) or tube audio. I've never seen one of these with a blond cabinet and I've never seen a Telefunken floor model powered speaker. The radio is missing a knob. Please let me know if anyone has a lead on getting a knob. The speaker measures 28" H x 18" W x 12" D. Photos in the Antique Radio Forum.

Ive never seen the powered speaker before either.

Ive had several and have a couple Tele radios right now. I really like them.

Is that a German, Euro or US version?

Id be REAL interested in seeing whats inside that "powered" speaker.

No spare knobs but Ive found a few spare parts on fleabay.

If you decide to keep and refurbish the radio, I can give a hint or two if you need.

BEFORE YOU DO IT. (I would have by now.)

IF you slide the chassis out of the box you should slide something between the chassis and the box or lift it up without dragging as it comes out. The knobs and some components are low and will break off easy if you tilt and drag the chassis.
 
Telefunken Opus Speaker

Thanks for the information. I've worked on a few of these in the past. Fortunately, the schematic was enclosed. The voltage on the radio is 115 volts only - US version. In a preliminary inspection, the radio powers up and the FM works but the dial cord is broken and the tuning capacitor is "tight". Attached are 2 pictures of the speaker insides. There are 3 speakers and the chassis is mounted upside down. The 2 tubes are a EF804 and EL84. This will be an interesting project!!

I NEED a pair of those speaker box amps. Those could be sweet as stand alones. Is there any marking on them as to what model?

You realize of course that the power tubes and pre amp tubes in both units are the best there are and worth good use if they are still in good shape.

If the tuner is Hard I'll bet the Treb and Bass pots are froze also Huh? Thats been my experience. German hard/chunky grease.
 
Awesome find. Is the radio stereo? Not sure why it needs another powered speaker, but still a cool deal. Has original tele tubes in it, AWESOME!

Telefunken Speaker

Unfortunately, there is no model number on the speaker. Just a serial number (02831). I can't find any information on the speaker. The tubes in the speaker amp are the original Telefunken. I know the tubes are worth some money. I sell tubes and related stuff on Ebay. I find it amazing what people pay for the Telefunken and other European tubes.

I'm going to start working on the radio tomorrow. I just have to clear off the workbench. I just finished restoring a Fisher 800c for someone today.

I can only work on one "mess" at a time!!
 
You don't want that junky-ass old thing. It's FUGLY & will sound like ASS, the best you can do...Just send it to me, & I'll dispose of it in a humane manner for ya....(grin)
