I spoke to Arnie back then and was amazed to learn (nativity?) that the actual original production panels were not made in house but by some different Japanese production corporations in batches. Most of the original Apogee Acoustics ribbon parts were made in house back then, and are certainly now in 2020.
NY - They are actually subisidised, 58 stages of process to make certain they are not only compatible with, but also solve most of the original EMIM issues - and the development costs were waived, all in house. There has not been a dollar value number price rise in 5 years, yet my suppliers of raw materials have had a few. At the time of release, original nos EMIM panels were $400 pc. In the real world, small volume engineering of high quality aftermarket parts that exceed the original parts will be more costly than production parts of speakers 30-40 years ago many of which were costing more than cars. Such a shame so much value has been spirited out of money over the decades, not my doing, contact those that control it's value...
I have not supplied Paul any for his system but PSA's mo is to tack industry icons to products, an effective strategy that I believe has paid off mostly. I am approachable for stock-swaps from quality mfrs, and the Apogee EMIM's would give him a closer look at the kit PSA builds
