Terry Dewick or Audioclassics?

I dont think AudioClassics or Terry would let a unit off the bench if it wasnt up to snuff, as if it was theirs....I personally messed up a McAmp I bought from AC (without my knowledge at the time), sent it in, and they fixed it with instructions on how to avoid the issue in the future..

Dude, why don't you just reopen shop?

I think todays product lineup and marketing strategy is evn more flawed now than it was 5 years ago.

I do believe CJ who has posted here and of coarse Native Texan are both dealers or affilated with one. I am sure there are others.

Haven't had the pleasure of dealing with Audiclassics, but I have had a few pieces serviced by Terry. Never had a problem, his work is first rate. If you can, drop it off at his shop. Interesting character. Knows his stuff and has an amazing collection of great gear. He does have guard cats in the shop though, but all they do is sleep, so don't let it bother you.

The right channel of my 2105 is putting out a fraction compared to the left. I would like to have this amp and my C26 given an overhaul by a competent tech. I've read great things about Terry on this board, but I live in NJ so I'd have to ship. My other alternative is Audioclassics which I could possibly drive to. Is it worth shipping the amps to Terry, or would Audioclassics make more sense for me?

Terry. :thmbsp:

I have had the pleasure of doing business with with Terry and Audio Classics. Terry is closer to me for repairs. Plus, and this is hardly ever mentioned, Terry's pricing for repairs is beyond reasonable. I have actually sent him more money than he billed me for a repair. That was back in the day when we still had a McIntosh dealer here. I knew what the dealer wanted to charge me for the repair.

In all fairness, I've never dealt with AC other than to offer up some gear for trade.
Terry has done work for me that I certainly can't complain about, and has answered innumerable questions regarding my stack. Terry 's work ethic is superb and his communication is excellent. AC may well be a good option and if you within driving distance that may be the tipping point. One distinction is that Terry participates here very often helping the DIY crowd, which is a big plus for me.

I was a service tech/system designer/installer for a Lancaster, PA McIntosh dealer, with about 20 years experience on Mac and many other brands. The local dealer closed their audio service department about four years ago because like many across the country, it couldn't make any money on it.

Fortunately, I owned my own service equipment and so I ended up working on a contract basis out of my home for my previous employer and several other companies in my region of southeastern PA.

I've never posted any details here because I was afraid of violating AK policy re: marketing in posts. Steve Rowell at Audio Classics knows me fairly well, though, so you could contact him/them for info if you wish, or you can of course contact Mcintosh. I am an authorized service agency for them.

Moderator-- if this post is in violation of AK policy, I apologize and feel free to delete it.

You can't really go wrong with either Terry or AC. I've never met Terry, but I have met Ryan, and he's a good guy. AC has an impeccable reputation, just like DeWick Repairs.

I would drive, either way, but that's just me.

Well put Ernie.

Sadly neither are driving distance from Silicon Valley...

Like you I have met Ryan but not Terry: Terry has done superb work on my gear and I would not hesitate to turn to him again.

Having said that, if Terry were to win the lottery (and I hope he does), & retire,
I would not hesitate to to turn to AC...

There's another gentleman who specializes in McIntosh. Cornell Smith, "Audio Doctor" in Phoenix, AZ. Came across on eBay. Never heard his name mentioned here but would be interesting to know if anyone here heard of or used his service. **No Affiliation**

Have you, by chance, perused the banners at the bottom of every AK page?

Ever notice the one for "Audio Doctor", the selfsame Cornell Smith?

We are very fortunate, here at AK, because we have several options for service of our beloved gear.

Ah yes, I see that now that you pointed that out. Curious his name hadn't come up in this thread.

Not so much, really. OP asked about what he considered his two alternatives. Audio Doctor, well-reputed as he is, is much more distant, and the OP is reluctant to ship.

Even then, he hadn't asked for more options, especially ones which would require shipping.

Still, it's worth the OP's consideration to look at the available options.
