Test for an avatar

This is a test-post, to see if my attempt to create an Avatar works. I had intended to use a completely different pic, but when I saw this "Arkay" reel-to-reel tape deck ad, it seemed too appropriate not to use.

"Arkay" as my online name was actually derived from my middle initials (R.K.), not from this brand of gear, but what could be more appropriate than that ad, for this forum?!

Now I suppose I'll have to find one of those decks, to make this legitimate, huh? :scratch2:

Hope this works...

Yep seems to work! Bit fuzzy, but hey what can you do with old stuff. Anyone knwo how to recap old ads?

The fuzziness is largely because the limit on pixel size is 150 x 150, and Imageshack only has one choice below that, which is 150 x 75. If anyone knows another place/way I can get pixel size reduced online, I'll try to improve it.

Here is the original I'm working from:

I thought so, too. Another ironic coincidence, since [I wasn't going to mention this until I'd finished it...] I have a half-finished speaker experiment/project which uses similar recycled metal horn shapes, not from automobile horns but partly from an old metal trophy, and partly from an old metal musical instrument. I thought the idea was my own original idea, but I guess not. At least the predecessor one was also an "Arkay"! :D

In case you are wondering, I do not expect my experiment to yield high-end audiophile results. It's just for fun, and for looks.

I made this 150x150...

Will that work?

edit.uhh, no.

The fuzziness is almost entirely because you started with a fuzzy original.

Here's as good as that one can get (using Corel PhotoPaint)

THANKS for that, Aage. :thmbsp:  :D

I just changed my first one (I think...if I did it right) for Aage's improved one. This is a re-test with the improved avatar.

Maybe started out as a car horn?

Ok, it worked. Now, to justify this otherwise boring thread, get an eyeful of THESE "Arkay" speakers:

Your avitar looks OK to me!

The speaker "horn" may have originated as a "real" car horn. :scratch2:

I seem to remember seeing the old Model T Ford cars having a vertically mounted horn with a rubber bulb on the back end (having a reed or other noise maker too) and the bigger flared horn bell facing frontward.

They just took off the bulb and noisemaker and mounted on a base with a "headphone type" speaker unit in it (some models let you take one of the "cans" from your headset and fit it under the base, provided your radio had enough "gain" to drive the phones loudly.

Thanks for the kind words about the avatar, guys. :thmbsp: It was just too much of an appropriate coincidence not to try it. Guess I'll keep it, now. :D Will post before-and-after pics later on, of what was originally thinking of using.

You're welcome. It does look better.

Of course, the system only holds ONE version of an avatar, so nobody is going to see the old fuzzy one.

I used a slight Gaussian blur to get rid of a lot of the fuzziness. Funny how a blur can actually make some images clearer.
