Tested Negative for Covid, still feel like crap. Anyone else feel that way?

Since you bunch of reprobates are the nearest thing I come to Social Media, I thought I would tell my story and post a question.

For the past two or three weeks, I've been feeling crappy. Really strong headaches that come and go, ear aches, shortness of breath and feeling of pressure on my chest, general sinus pressure, stomach gurgling, and general aches in my upper body. Last week, I went for a Covid test at my local CVS. The results came in on Friday, I tested Negative.

While I didn't want to have Covid, the negative test poses more questions than it answers. Why am I have these headaches, could I have a brain tumor or something? The shortness of breath, is it heart related? I'm not a hypochondriac by any means, but with all that's going on in the World, sometimes it's difficult not to be.

I speak to friends and family, both here in the US and back home in the UK. Two of my friends in the UK have described having almost the exact symptoms that I described above. Friends and co-workers here have also described similar. I'm wondering, is there a Covid strain that doesn't show up on tests?

My wife had something similar last fall. Got the test and it was negative. Later got an antibody test that was also negative. It's possible it's a different virus or illness you picked up. Regular flu hasn't entirely disappeared (and some indications that it may be resurging now) as well.

Worth seeing a doctor given the duration of your symptoms -- just because Covid is here it doesn't also mean that all the other diseases we can get have stopped occurring.

I'm wondering, is there a Covid strain that doesn't show up on tests?

Absolutely it is possible:

The SARS-CoV-2 virus can mutate over time, resulting in genetic variation in the population of circulating viral strains. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is alerting clinical laboratory staff and health care providers that false negative results may occur with any molecular test for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 if a mutation occurs in the part of the virus’ genome assessed by that test.

As others have suggested, you may simply have contracted another type of flu, but given your symptoms, I'd say that there is a good chance that it is a COVID variant. Has your sense of smell been affected at all?

If you haven't already, you should probably take vitamin D supplements, as well as Zinc and Quercetin. Higher levels of these are known to be associated with less severe COVID outcomes. I'll be happy to provide some authoritative sources, if anyone is interested.

I also use oil of oregano, which has antiviral properties, whenever I suspect that I may be coming down with any kind of cold or flu, and have had very good results.

Hope you feel better soon!

There are plenty of false positives and negatives so maybe you should get tested again. It sounds like what I had last March but I never went to take a test and haven't ever had a test. The headaches were awful along with the other symptoms that you have. I never ran a fever or lost my sense of taste or smell. I almost never have a fever (usually below normal) and if I do get one of 100 degrees or more then I'm very sick.

I've heard tell from a number of directions that anxiety can produce those symptoms. Only you can actually answer that but it's worth examining yourself... not sure I'd ask a doctor, they might prescribe something...

Do you wear masks constantly, even when no one is around? Constant mask wearing can reduce the blood oxygen level and cause hypoxemia, which occurs when levels of oxygen in the blood are lower than normal. Hypoxemia can cause mild problems such as headaches and shortness of breath. In severe cases, it can interfere with heart and brain function.

Do you constantly use hand sanitizers? Some have ingredients which are toxic. Whatever we put on our skin is readily absorbed into our bloodstream where it can potentially cause some serious damage to our bodies.

Go see your primary care doctor... I felt like **** Friday night. Slight headache, loss of appetite, tired. crashed very early... At around 11AM Friday morning I had gotten the J &J vac. Felt fine Saturday.

Well down here right now it's pollen season. There's a nacreous yellow haze of oak pollen in the air, my cars look like brown suede. For years I thought I was getting the flu, until I put it all together.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. My existing family doctor won't allow face to face visits, which really bothers me. I have an appointment to see a new one March 29th.

Terrible that you can't get into your current doctor. My brother and sister are both back to seeing patients now -- sister stopped for a while and went back last fall to face to face, and brother is at a hospital and was seeing people as needed all along.

Might not hurt to top up a bit on Vitamin D3 as that is a good blanket protection for a lot of ailments.

Hope you start to feel better!

Yes. Folks need to know of the option of urgent care. Lost my medical insurance decades ago and while severely ill, was not offered this alternative by health professionals.
