Testing a few methods of digitizing vinyl

Well, what exactly are you doing? You say you're testing digitizing methods, but you don't say what they are, nor what hardware or software (if any) you're using. IMO, a case could be made for either file (A) or file (B).
 
I use a Mcintosh MP 100 digitally feeding my professional Marantz CD recorder. Easy, nothing fancy. I can insert an EQ, expander, limiters and other goodies if I wish using the analog out feeding my C-34 using the processor networks before connecting to the Marantz via the analog inputs, too. Yes, there is a difference . But a tweak here or there now and then does make a pleasing difference. So I can have it raw or slightly messaged.
 
I believe the OP wants un-biased opinions on the SQ of each sample. If so, he would want to avoid revealing the means by which the samples are made.

On purpose.

But then, IMO, he should not have told us which sounds more like a CD.

If I want to replicate an experiment and confirm the results, I need to know the conditions under which the original experiment was conducted. For all I know this isn't so much about method as it is about blind luck (no offense intended to the OP). Just saying.

I planned to explain my methods for recording each version after I at least got a few responses answering my question. My opinions on which one sounds closer to a CD and the methods used to record should hold no bearing on your opinion to winch one sounds better, that job is left to your ears :D

Recording (A) uses an RCA to 1/8 cable into my PC's line in jack and audacity for recording.

Recording (B) uses an AudioBox USB (Gold limited edition). RCA to XLR connectors are used for the right and left channels, audacity for recording.

I'll also add both use my Onyko TX-DS 494 as a phono stage and are recorded through tape out. My turntable is a Technics 1200 MK2 with a Shure M44E cartridge.

I copy mine to CD as well, but I do it "raw" and apply tweaks after. That way, I know the raw tracks are the same on different equipment.
 
I just listen to the vinyl I find op amps etc in recorders and cd players never sound the same anyway.. If I damage a record or for some reason in the future it wears out I will just buy another copy.. Never needed to yet and it has been 30 odd years of collecting so far.

I've found without using an outboard ADC there isnt much use in transferring - SQ is usually worse otherwise
