At the Fest, McIntosh loaned me a brand new MA-7000 for my listening room. The unit is everything you'd expect, and sounded terrific. Sally Goff, Chuck Hinton, and Jim Ludoviconi were a delight to chat with, and at dinner on Saturday Chuck Hinton showed a flair for stand-up comedy.

What a deal.

If the MA7000 sounds 1/2 as good as it looks ... hmmmm.

If it was around when I went shopping for an MA6900 and came home with a C220/MC252, I might have gone for the integrated.

It truly sounded terrific. I've heard the Preludes with an MC-402, which seems to have more detail and subtlety, and an MC-602, which gave me goosebumps quite often, but the differences are small.

The C-42, MC-602 combination was what first made me really like the Preludes, but it's a lot more money, and takes up more room, then the efficient MA-7000. I think a lot of folk were impressed at how much quality sound you got out of small footprints.

All in all, a great experience thanks to Mc. Next year, maybe we can get Ron-C to put in an appearance. Hmmm... if Mc would lend pairs of MC-2301s and 1.2KWs and a C-500, I could bring the Pipedreams, and... :music:
 
If you're shipping Pipedreams it's directly to the hotel. The damn things won't even fit in my door...

Yes, that's the IDS-25. It has bass, but not in a way that satisfies, especially compared to the XRT1Ks which were next door. I'm probably not being fair, because I don't really like them much, but that's very possibly because the guy demoing them last year didn't know the volume knob had any position but LOUD.

I'm probably a neanderthal, but bass from small drivers is never convincing for me. There's something about a large surface area moving lots of air that makes bass sound right to me. I'm fully aware that many disagree, and prefer to go strictly by measurements. Measured, I think the IDS-25s do quite well.
