Cool idea. I'll "vote" when the poll is finalized. You might consider adding:

Videotape (VHS /hi fi video)
Betamax (perhaps under videotape, above)
DCC
DAT

Vintage Novelty players and perhaps boomboxes might be interesting to add to a poll, although they are really just different forms of other categories (radio and cassette).

Probably not worth getting into really obscure formats like elcaset and wire recording, as very few people (even here) probably have them; maybe they can be subsumed under other categories.

I have 20+ of these, watch them all the time, I probably use b&w sets more than color. I have several of the old electrostatic b/w sets, early round screen b/w sets and rectangular tube b/w sets. I also have early round color sets, and rectangular tube color sets. But I have no solid state televisions (color or b&w), no color wheel sets, and no mechanical televisions.

Yes. I currently just have 1 VCR a 1979 RCA, but I've been looking for an even earlier model with the dial tuners. But I don't collect VCRs like I do TVs and radios, I'm just looking to have 1 nice working older unit.

I don’t see counting those media players that you have by “accident” but don’t really follow the medium, (an 8 track in an old all in one that you could bare less about, like my old 1st receiver with an 8 track in it) anyone disagree?

LaserDisc - Got into when publishers dumped their stock in '01

MD - A bittersweet love affair with the MZ-R90 and MDS-JE320

Cassette - Three decks, three boomboxes, my car has a great cheapo one - which I use those signal adaptors for.

Vinyl - it didn't die, but now have twice the amount of LPs than I grew up with.

Equalizers, reverb and dynamics processors (The last time I saw a new, retail EQ was when Circuit City last carried one in 2002, a low-end Technics for $200)
 
The dead and obsolete technology I play with is SACD and DVD-A.

I think CD is slowly on the way out also. Was in Borders yesterday killing some time and the music section was much smaller and the racks were THIN! I didn't realize that downloading was killing the physical medium this quickly. Anyone else experience this?

Apparently Barnes & Noble hasn't been told; their music departments in my area are still huge.

Whoever wrote that article and thinks vinyl is dead has never talked to a DJ lately...:)

Like it or not, the thousands of clubs out there are ensuring the survival of the format.

I have tube stuff & vinyl. Cassette is "dead to me" (in my best Don Corleone voice) :D
 
Umatic, one of my personal favorite videotape formats. It looks better than SVHS, and survives with the cockroaches. In fact I would go so far as to say that in future generations they'll only know our visual records by the films we leave behind, and all the miles of 3/4" videotape.
