The Advent speakers - fair price?

The seller's asking for $200... is this a fair price?

Aside from recapping the crossovers, is there any other necessary repairs typically needed?

Seller's description:
This is a matched pair of vintage Advent large loudspeakers designed by Henry E. Kloss, in Cambridge, MA. These speakers are in excellent working condition. The cabinets have a few small scratches but other than that they have a beautiful walnut finish.

$200 is a fair-to-high price. If they haven't been refoamed recently, then it's too high. Still, these do command decently high prices on eBay. The walnut cabs are nice, and decently rarer than the utility vinyl cabs.

$130 is way too low on these. Recapping is fairly easy. The other thing you can do is re-seal the cabinets with caulk or something similar.
 
I sold mine yesterday for 125 dollars and had a hard time getting that and they were the walnut ones with new surrounds, redone crossovers and new cloth on the covers. I had another set with the utility cabinets that took me months to get 80 dollars for them. They do sell for quite a bit more on that dreaded sight.
 
I think I'll offer $100 and settle for $125. The worst he can say is no.

Here in the Boston area, there is no shortage of Advent, KLH, and AR speakers!
 
I talked to the seller last night and he was open to bargaining, and I was all set to go buy them - but then I realized that the grill cloth is not original! I've never seen NLA's with black cloth!

Meanwhile, LexDM3 (who lives about 10 minutes from me) has a lead on some Advents for me, so we're working something out.

You beat me to it. Was getting ready to post the cloth looked wrong.


Nice speakers, hope you do get a pair. BTW it would take more then one and a quarter for me to get rid of mine.

Sorry, no luck here. My friend who had the Advent 5002s gave them away a little while ago when I didn't get back to him. He said they had some cabinet damage anyway. I'm holding on to the two pairs of OLAs that I have. Sorry again.

No sweat, Dan.

Anyway, today I fixed up a pair of Realistic Optimus 5's (Japanese knock-offs of KLH Fives) that I found at Goodwill. I recapped the x-overs and cleaned up the cabs, and they sound surprisingly good, so I think I'm set for 'east coast-style' vintage speakers for the time being.
