G'day all, inspired by a radio music program this afternoon that featured a few tracks off this album, on this grey, drizzly and cool evening I'm presently playing the album on vinyl.

It's been a while since I've listened to it and although I often change my opinion of my favourite Beatles album, right now 'Abbey Road' wins that title. A truly great album. Yep! Regards, Felix aka catman.

Great Album. I listened to the CD a couple days ago (bought in 1980's) and it inspired me to order the remastered vinyl version, which arrived yesterday. It is on my playlist for tonight.

I'm listening to the remastered 24bit FLAC as I type. It will always be my favorite.

Yeah. I know what you mean about Abby Road. A superb session of music. When the mood's right it is my favorite Beatles record.

I can't say that it is my favorite Beatles album, but I do love it.

I also remember my dad gave me a copy when I was a little kid, in the late 70s/early 80s. I was a bit sloppy with my record care at the time, and he used to get on me about it. I was about seven years old, so I was obviously an expert at everything, and I brushed him off. One day my copy of Abbey was sitting on the floor of my bedroom, waiting to be put away. Our big old sheep dog came barreling into my room, landed on the record, and put the biggest and widest scratch ever on it. The image of that scratch is burned into my head. I like to think that it was a "learning moment". I've been a lot more careful with my music since then, I know that much.

i know i am a troublemaker but, they could have left off Maxwell and Octopus, maybe substituting Old Brown Shoe and Ballad of John And Yoko (both recorded around the same time and released as a great single) instead. For a Ringo vocal (cause you have to have one on every Beatles LP) maybe he could have sung Something, think about it, it would be seriously great.

Yikes! You were making a rational argument until the final sentence. No way Ringo could have done Something.

I can see Old Brown Shoe on there. But the Ballad of John & Yoko would have ruptured the tone of the record which is subdued in a good way. It was more a song of the moment anyway, although it did hit #1.

Besides I like Maxwell and Octopus Garden.

i can totally hear it, i'm like the only person in the world that loves Ringos LP of standards Sentemental Journey.

but just cause i can hear it doen't mean it's a good idea :)

Octopus's Garden always seemed like a rehash of Yellow Submarine. Still I like it.

Maxwell is delicious nonsense. As a tyke, I liked that song best.

You have a very keen ear for that is exactly what it is. Still, they let Ringo have his writing credit.

Both songs are whimsical, although Maxwell could be seen in the light of very dark humor.

IMHO they both (and Her Majesty) lend a sense of humor and light heartedness to the record and thus keep it from being too somber.

It's quite simply one of the greatest albums of all time, along with every Beatles studio album starting with RUBBER SOUL. Yes, even MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR and THE WHITE ALBUM. Even after all these years these works still astound.
