The Denafrips Terminator, II and Plus thread

Sound Dragon

Yawns and sets his couch on fire!
Starting our own club as we are getting the side eye (sarcasm) from the other Denafrips Dac owners.

I am on week 2 of having the Terminator II here and I have to say that I am really impressed by it. I wasn’t sure if it was staying or just passing through. But I think it may remain for a good while….unless a plus comes along.

I have one curious question about the 3 Cone Footers and how they are attached to the chassis?
This may also apply to other Denafrips DAC Models as well?

I have yet to tinker, and of course reluctant to unless I knew more? Would be super if they merely screwed into threaded holes? I suppose Vinshine could answer this question?

With that said, I reckon it's evident that I'm not a huge lover-fan of a 3-tier support.

Local dealer has a 1 owner unit for 4K,

Is the OEM warranty transferable?

I am in the market for a new DAC. Looking at Bryston, McIntosh and Ayre. Like new and warranties, especially as I was burned by a dealer on a "demo w/ full factory warranty" a few years ago.

This is a question best confirmed by Alvin he is present on Agon perhaps with the Denafrips
threads here he can be persuaded to make an appearance?

Naturally sending your query directly is an option.

I tried reaching Alvin on Agon privately about 10 days ago, asked two simple questions, but no reply.

Would probably be best going direct to their website.

Yes go directly to their website. Questions are answered promptly. Good support, IME anyway.

BTW, my Ares is a “4 footer”, very stable, as would be expected. I understand your reservations about a tripod set-up. Kinda cheesy it’s designed that way, IMO.

It is. Contact Alvin on the Vinshine website contact page.

Yeah, as noted, I'm a little funky about a tripod setup, but to confide, I've had a few top flight high end Telescope Mounts that were like that. Would 4 legs have been better?

I know that 3 legs positioned properly over a load is very stable. Rock solid.

And Scope Mount Piers embedded in Concrete 10'-15' deep, and isolated from the rest of a floor, even in an amateur observatory.

And when you're using a Scope and looking at Jupiter-Saturn at 500X through a $20,000 scope, forget about such a scope sitting on a Porch Deck.

The only issues I see, and my biggest dislike on the Terminator II, these Cone Feet underneath are pointy-sharp. And they will carve the bejesus out of your pristine rack shelf if you don't take special precautions beforehand.

Agreed. I use Isoacoustic Orea's which I feel are a better option. Once set though, it is solidly planted. Helps that it weighs more like an amp than a Dac.

Of course one can take a file, or dremel tool to the cone feet, smooth and if you're good with doing such, it wouldn't look like some alteration. But still, how much material would one want to remove? And "dope" the unit like a dummy ($4500) because you were short-sighted?

Me, I'll just get the nice Herbie's Coupling Discs, I'm not buying $1000 Silipoints or some other whacky footers.
It is. Contact Alvin on the Vinshine website contact page.

I myself got a recent response from Vincent Ong at Vinshine, As I wanted to know what the date of sale was on my Unit and who the original owner was to have some confirmation of how much warranty is left?

He asked I give him the person's email address and location to further confirm, which I did just earlier.

(Edit) Vincent Ong did again contact me, said that yes, the seller I bought the unit from was the original owner, was bought from them May 2021, that I have a warranty until 2024. He also said that he has listed-registered me as the new owner of my unit. Cool!

Did anyone managed to get dual AES of Terminator working as phase and channel were messed up ? 3 yrs wait is finally over for me I guess .. it will not be resolved without even Alvin's push :(

Have a question about an oddity I've noted with my Terminator II DAC.

I wanted to try to send the output of this DAC to 2 different preamps, and used Y Splitter Cables at the rear of the DAC.

There was no signal at all going to either Preamp. Why?

If this is common, then is there a way around such?

Could I then perhaps use the Y Splitter Cables at one of the Preamp's line in, and running to the other Preamp instead?
