The ESS Transar/atd is ALIVE!

awesome looking speakers. I wonder how much you'd sell these for if you were ever to consider selling...

When I moved from Maryland back to California last summer, I put them up for sale on Craigslist and on Marketplace. I was asking $2,000 I think. I had one offer and he bailed at the last minute. The night before we moved, I trashed the large wood baffles. They were flimsy and broken anyway. I still have the drivers and baffle dimensions, but considering making something smaller and sturdier. I'm not close to even beginning this project and I would consider selling them to someone locally.

I have been trying to find these speakers for years. And then today, I happened upon this.

If you/speakers are still around...please PM me.

Thanks.

I've decided to share my message to the last three people who have ghosted me since I've PM'd them.

It'd be hard to sell right now since they're not complete. Can't demo them. And pretty much no one else knows how to actually set them up (they're finicky on the vertical mount's bolt tightening), even if there was a baffle to mount them to. Also, no way I could ship them.

But if you're willing to try, I'd do $2500 for everything. That's two drivers, two new AMTs in boxes, a MiniDSP pre-loaded with the crossover specs (so you don't blow them up when first powering on; also, there is one un-used license on the MiniDSP so you could load onto your own computer), the speaker wire connector boxes, a subwoofer that plays up to 150hz, an original but non-functioning Transar amp/crossover, and all the mounts and trims and bolts that I created or bought.

If you have a table saw and a router and novice skills, you could literally mount them to plywood if you wanted...

I'm located in Sacramento, CA.

No sugar coating here. They're rare and awesome and delicate and you'll need my help. If this doesn't work for you, I'll happily get to them again in a couple years.

I worked at ESS in Sacramento on the Transar. My friend was Oskar Heil. I also worked on an advanced Transar prototype that included an amt supertweeter situated above the Great Heil. I secured the services of Peter Moncrieff who back then had one of the few Genrad FFT analyzers. We determined we needed to extend the high frequency of the amt so we built an amt supertweeter above the Great Heil. It worked supremely well. Then we built a pair of 10" subwoofers to augment the bass. These were world class speakers. Only two pair were built and one was stolen. The existing pair were with the family of Dr Victor Comerchero, the co-founder of ESS.
