Hello, I haven't posted in a long while. Hoping for some information and identification assistance. Can anyone help me identify this console? I visited http://www.fisherconsoles.com and the Ambassador II looks most similar to the unit I have but there are a few subtle differences. I would appreciate any information about the internals of the console as well. It appears to contain a 30 A Fisher Chassis and a 900 C Fisher Chassis. I can't find much information on the 900 C. Does it go buy a different name? Finally, does the "tube tuner" have a model number or is it incorporated into the 900 C. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

the top is a fisher 500 mono receiver. looks like a 30-c preamp and a 30-a amp. nice console!

1959 Ambassador II . 500 , 30C preamp, 30A Amp. The 500 has Stereo in's for Phono and a MONO amp built in, with a output for a 2nd channel. The 30C is the 2nd channel preamp, 30A is 2nd channel amp. NO FM Stereo at this point, although it has MPX output and inputs on top. (See link above.).
FISHER DID change the model #'s on components to differentiate between STANDALONE and CONSOLE versions. Apparently the 900c is the CONSOLE version of the 30C. Probably a couple of minor changes in the Bass Tone control circuit to cut bass due to harmonics from the cabinet.

The TA-900 differs from the TA-500 in that it sports 3 extra RCA jacks on the top of the chassis to allow it to function in stereo with the 30-A and 30-C outboard channel. I believe Fisher also offered a conversion kit (TK5) to convert a TA-500. You will note in the third image posted above the 3 cables snaking around the right side of the TA-900. Those are the interconnects to the 30-A/30-C "B" channel.
On my later TA-500 (5881 outputs) the volume control has two wipers; only one of which is wired. I believe this was done to allow you to control the master volume with the 500 alone if you chose to convert it to stereo using the TK5 kit. This old post shows the location of the extra RCA jacks in the blank area forward of the standard MPX output jack just behind the front panel:

Those 2nd generation Ambassadors in the modern cabinets are one of Fisher's better-looking efforts. The stereo implementation was a bit clunky but - if it's anything like my '59 Contemporary with it's "stereo companion" - I'm sure it sounds quite acceptable when restored. I hesitated to comment on this one, though, because it seems every time one of these unique, early stereo consoles shows up here they end up being sold piecemeal. To me that destroys much of the value. I get the economics of it but; like so many of today's realities: it depresses me.

TA-900 from 1959. NOT to be confused with the Hybrid amp TA-900 from 1964-65-66 in the President console. Fisher did a fair amount of using the same model # on different components.
Thanks again for the reply. So just so I'm clear because I don't know much. The piece with the tuner that has been referred to as a Fisher 500 mono amp is actually a Fisher TA 900?

I have a similar unit that I am refurbishing. I am at the stage of rewiring the three components together (TA-900, 900-C, and 30-A). Does anyone have recommendations on how to connect the Garard turntable and the 3 components? Thank you
