The Good Old Days, NYC High Fi Stereo Show 60's-70's

Does anyone remember these wonderful events put on by the manufactures of audio equipment? I remember the wonderful set-ups they had! They used hotel rooms that they would demonstrate their top shelf equipment, speakers, turntables, receivers, amplifiers, tuners and accessories! I remember Wharfdale showed how their speaker cabinets were sand filled and one of the turntable manufacturers had a turntable playing upside down! Those were the good old days!

I went to the 67 and 68 ones. Learned a few things too.

That was before my interest in audio took off. As a kid in rural North Carolina, we didn't have many options until we got to Durham or Chapel Hill where we had high end dealers like Soundhaus (McIntosh). I would have loved to see them though.

We're fortunate to have other shows where you can meet the manufacturers today, too.

Oh, and the dealership where I once worked used to have the Dual upside-down demo stand. Frankly, you could have mounted most any turntable into it and the laws of physics would still have applied. Still, it was cool to put on a record (with a special clamp to hold in up) and see the tonearm drift down slowly while suspended from springs on all 4 corners.
