I always post this video on this date, it holds a great deal of importance and emotion for me (and many others). These fine folks who orchestrated this never got nearly enough recognition. This is TRUE American spirit right here.

Bridges & tunnels were closed immediately, all flights were grounded. My wife and her co-worker were headed into lower Manhattan via the Holland Tunnel, and got stuck in traffic on the elevated section of the NJ Turnpike extension (near Liberty Science Center in Jersey City), they could see the whole thing unfolding right across the water, they watched Building One come down as they listened to the play-by-play on the car radio. That experience still haunts her after all these years....

Not to detract from the significance of the achievement, and I agree that the boat lift was the largest, but I HAVE to give props to Dunkirk, those blokes were demonstratively UNDER FIRE and they kept on going.

well if they would have done the lift from the harlem river that would have changed!

Thanks for posting this again Maxx. It truly shows how the American families unite in such disasters. The long view of personal boats converging on the scene always brings a tear to my eyes. They knew what needed done, and did it without any hesitation.
