The Halftime Show in YOUR Home City.....

OK, I thought I'd steal an idea from Finnbow, who suggested that the Super Bowl halftime show might have been well served if it focused on local music and talent from the host state or city. That got me thinking about what a "local" halftime show might look like in other cities around the good old USA...
What would you put together as a representative performance in your part of the world?

Here in my hometown of DC, it might be a rockin' go-go show, with Trouble Funk, Chuck Brown and Hot & Cold Sweat sharing a revolving stage. Or maybe a straightedge hardcore show to pump the fans, with Fugazi, Scream, Dag Nasty and Shudder to Think. Or perhaps a twangin' country set with Emmylou Harris and Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Seldom Scene....Or just get rocked by Nils Lofgren.

Who'd play the halftime show in your town?

No Way!

Here in DC, we'd have to get the Bad Brains back together, along with Henry Rollins with Minor Threat, and as good measure, throw in The Slickee Boys..

ZZ Top (again), Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen.

Odd combination, I grant you, but it has loads of potential.

my city is hosting the superbowl next year but they won't let me pick the acts. maybe John Hiatt with Axyl Rose popping out of the floor, they will duet on Help by The Beatles, while Victor Wooten is lowered from the rafters. I will be one of the robot dancers with a square head.

If the NFL were picking: Aerosmith, Dropkick Murphys, and New Kids on the Block

If I was picking: Aimee Mann, The Cars, Jonathan Richman, Guster, and for the finale I'd bring out the Pixies and hand Frank Black and Kim Deal big swords and shields and have them duke it out.

In that it is no longer possible to have a Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, Link Wray (RIP) guitar-God bash, I'd probably go with Chuck Brown. He's more of a DC institution than anyone else.

As good as Emmylou, Carpenter, and The Seldom Scene are, they may lull the crowd to sleep.

Actually, since I'm setting the rules for this, departed artists are welcome. Your guitar god trio would be a great addition. It's going to be a long and varied halftime show, but no one's in a hurry to have the Redskins take the field again at this point.....

Around the time I attained drinking age, Danny and the Fat Boys had a regular gig at some dump on M Street for quite a while. Billy Hancock on bass, Dick Heintze on organ, Big Dave on drums. Wow!

Including deceased artists will let me add Roy Clark to the guitar bash as well.

hell if you can have dead folks, Wes Montgomery and Hoagie Carmichael playing together while Cole Porter drops from the rafters.

My hometown did host Superbowl XL, and the Stones did the halftime show. I guess they didn't think any local talent was worthy.:scratch2:
There were some local folks doing the pregame and anthem, however.
But still...
