I’m turing 36 in a few days. Happily dating and got a little bonus at work. Life is good. Did a few things to rejuvated my audio system - things I’ve been wanting to do for a many, many years. Finally got a DAC, a Toppding D30 connected optically to a Chromecast Audio. I updated all old mis-matched wiring with decent contemporary stuff and oiled my old PSBs. I had my Pioneer SA-8800 tuned up then I re-veneered it. Got a carbon fiber platter mat and a Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge for my Realistic LAB 400 while it too got a service (just a check up, needed nothing, really). A modded Sony PS1 SCPH-1001 a friend built for me does rare CD duty. I now just need a proper rack! Feeling proud of what I’ve put together. The Pioneer I bought 15 years ago from a junk store for $12. I saved the LAB 400 a couple years later from the rain as it sat on a small town sidewalk, free to a good home. I got the PSBs another year later from another junk store for $28.
It may have taken most of my adult life, but I finally have the system I’ve always wanted. Countless pieces have come and gone, some much more expensive, rarer or even maybe better sounding, but this is my favorite stuff. My diamonds from the rough, restored to their former glory, with a touch of today. Just so happy.
