The icing on the JBL L300 cake!

Very nice work- they look beautiful, makes you wonder why JBL did not offer this as an extra $$$ item!
If you have your old lens and want to experiment with an idea, put a thin strip of 1/8 square foam insulation across the edge of each lens slat....you might well be surprised at the result! It is somewhat time consuming, but the results make well impress you!

This is intriguing and I'm sorry I missed it before. Are you speaking of all the front edges, including the parabolic scallop? Did you try any other types of profiles besides square?

And what did you find in your experiment?

BTW, anyone know if Smoking Joe might consider making more of these walnut versions?

I've wanted some wooden ones for a while, and came across a "hobby pack" of 1/16 3"X24" walnut slats. The cutting of the slats was easy on a bandsaw, I taped all 22 pieces together and cut and shaped them all at once. None of my saws could accurately cut the angle for the back pieces, so I cut 80 spacers at the proper thickness and angle by hand with a razor saw on a miniature mitre box I made. That took the longest, 2 nights, 3 whiskey/sodas per night. I built a jig for assembly. They are the exact dimensions, angle, and slat number as the originals, and surprisingly sturdy, due to being supported on all corners. Yeah, I know the wood doesn't match, but the flash made them look much brighter than they are.
Got about 3 after work sessions in them.

Day-umm Jimerson - those are fantastic looking! Love the funky grain of the wood too, very cool.

Sorry, man. It just occured to me I jumped your thread! I saw the ones like yours that Heather had, and had to try my hand. It's hard to improve on L300's but your lenses are the bomb.

Dang, those are nice speakers! They will serve you well. If you ever decide to part with them, you'll also be kindly rewarded.

No apologies necessary! The more wooden lens porn the better!

Those are Fantastic. You might as well sell the grilles. If I were in Phil's situation with the 4345s, I would have considered removing the pets and the kids, so the grilles could be removed. (joking, I think)

Very very nice. Are your jigs set up so you could make more if there was some demand?

If there was interest, yes I could make more. After making two pair it should not take long, but beware, I do know how much time and effort it will take this time!
It took approximately 2.5 weeks from receiving wood to shipping out, that was after about 4 weeks of trial and error.

Dang! You still have these?
If so, you MUST bring them to the Lodge meet in September.
They are gorgeous, one of my favorite JBL models!
