Drive, platter, bearing, suspension are all top notch, like you'd find on a TT today at +$10,000. If I had one, I'd try to get the arm to work right, for the mechanical challenge alone, and of course to hear it — but I'd convert it to a "normal" turntable in a heartbeat. It would be superb, and merit a really good modern pivoted or linear-tracking arm...

Wonder why? She's a beaut. I am a fan and have a minty 12U with the next to impossible to find original dust cover. I love playing that table. Posted pics of it a few years back in this forum.

What cart are you using on your SLT-12u? Do you have enough room to clear a 180gm disk even when the arm is fully cued up?

Right now I'm using an Audio-Technica "AT150Sa" and it works great with all records, even 180gr. I still use the stock mat which isn't very thick.
If the arm descent is a problem, however you can adjust the platter a bit by playing with the height with the 2 wing nuts underneath. It takes a little patience, but with the right settings it works for all records.

I am using a Pickering UV-15 and with the 2mm Herbie Way Excellent II mat on the platter, the headshell has to be visibly tilted backwards. I have a 0.5mm mat coming so it willl give a little breathing room.

On the wing nuts, I did level using them. However, even with them in full transit mode, the headshell being level still will not clear the 180gm rim. I will keep try and thanks again for the name of your cart.
