The issues with speed trimmers

My Sony Ps- x50 developed a few problems after using it for about a year. The strobe Light had failed and the table ran slow on 33, and even slower on 45. I recapped the power supply, which fixed my stobe issue, but didn't fix the turntable. I was stumped.
After much head scratching, I went achead and adjusted the speed trimmers. The 33 rpm trimmer made no affect, but the 45 trimmer was a different story. Even though it had visible corrosion, I thought it would have no effect, as it hadnt been adjusted for 40 years. Even so, lo and behoold, the table immediately quartz locked and played at the exact seed, and hhas been doing so ever since.
So the moral of the story is, if you're fixing a turntable and get stuck, CHECK THE TRIM POTS!!!

Yep. I have a Yamaha P-30 that was running a little fast and that's exactly what happened with it. That was a belt drive but same idea. I don't believe that trimmer had ever been touched since the manufacture date but it must have been gummed up just enough to screw things up.

I'm quite proud of myself for diagnosing and fixing it by ear too, for the most part - it was 34.59 before I started fooling with it and 33.31 after.

I'm not so proud of myself for breaking off the 33 trimmer trying to make it perfect. Ooops.

Use a squirt of this on the trimmer and work it back and forth, it'll keep it from going bad again.
